FAQ

What are sheer shades?

Sheer shades combine soft fabric vanes with sheer panels in a variety of styles. In one style, the vanes “float” between two sheer panels while in another, the vanes attach to a sheer backing.

How much privacy do sheer shades provide?

While the “sheer” part of the shades provide outside views, you can adjust the fabric vanes for daytime privacy (while still enjoying natural light).

What vane sizes are available with sheer shades?

Vane sizes vary between 2” and 5”, depending on the style of sheer shade you choose.

Can you install sheer shades on doors?

You can install horizontal as well as vertical styles of sheer shades on doors.

How do you clean sheer shades?

A regular, light dusting will help keep your shades looking like new.

Can sheer shades cover specialty shaped windows?

Hunter Douglas offers sheer shade products that cover: arches, angles, trapezoids, hexagons, circles, ovals, bay windows and different styles of doors.

What motorized operating systems are available with sheer shades?

You can conveniently control all Hunter Douglas sheer shades, including Silhouette® and Pirouette® Window Shadings and Luminette® Privacy Sheers with PowerView® Automation, via an app, remote, automatically, or even with your voice and a compatible smart-home system.

How to measure and install sheer shades?

Before measuring for your sheer shades, consider whether you want an inside or outside mounted window treatment. If inside, you’ll need to make sure your window is square by measuring horizontally at the top, center and bottom, vertically along both sides and center, and diagonally. Also measure the frame depth and take into account any window hardware that might obstruct the window treatment.

What types of fabric options are available for sheer shades?

Hunter Douglas offers a wide selection of fabric colors and materials for sheer shades to complement the style of your room and meet your specific needs. Choose from materials with varying opacities, from light filtering to room darkening, as well as from specialized sheers, called ClearView® Sheers, that provide an exceptionally clear view to the outdoors.
