What’s the difference between macro blinds and micro blinds?

When you’re decorating a new home or office, you quickly realize that there’s a huge variety of blinds and shades out there. Feeling a little lost? Don’t worry! We’re here to explain… starting this week with the difference between macro blinds and micro blinds.

What are macro blinds?

“Macro” simply means “big”. So macro blinds have extra-large slats. They’re usually about 2 inches   wide, while standard blinds are around 1 inch.

The wider slats mean that when you open the blind, there’s more space between each slat. So macro blinds are a great choice if you want to let in more light, appreciate the views outside… or just have a larger window to cover!

What are micro blinds?

Just as “macro” means “big, “micro” means “small”. Micro blinds have narrow, lightweight slats. They measure just half an inch across.

Because the slats are smaller, they shut out the light more efficiently. Micro blinds are also useful for small windows, or windows with an unusual shape. It’s easy to cut micro blind slats into the right shape and size for non-standard windows.

How to choose between macro blinds and micro blinds

The decision between macro blinds and micro blinds depends on two things:

  • your home or office design
  • your personal preferences for light

For example, if you have a home or office building with big picture windows on an amazing view, then macro blinds are the way to go. But if you want more privacy, or have smaller windows, then micro blinds may be a better choice.

You’ll also need to think about your light preferences. Some people like to fill a room with natural light, while others like to control the lighting level. This can even vary from room to room: most people want to shut out natural light in the room where they sleep, for example.
